While polishing prior to ceramic coating is not necessary, I would highly advise that you should. Polishing is a crucial step before applying a ceramic coating. Polishing removes imperfections & contaminates from the paint creating a smooth, even surface for the coating to adhere properly. What is oxidation
What is Oxidation? Essentially it is a form of corrosion. its the chemical process in which the paints protective clear coat degrades due to prolonged exposure to common elements like UV rays, heat, bug splatter, bird droppings etc. Over time this causes paint to become dull, faded, & chalky. This degradation can lead to paint appearing rough & cloudy & in severe cases peeling & flaking can occur.
How to prevent Oxidation
To slow down the process of paint oxidation regularly wash , seal, & protect your vehicle from excessive uv exposure. Consider parking in a shaded area or using a car cover when able.
